Outback Profile: Aaron Carbury
Posted on October 3, 2011
Continuing our series of chatting with members of the Lions who represented Australia at the World Cup, we sat down with Aaron Carbury, to see what he had to say.
Name: Aaron Carbury
Number 60
Position OL
Years playing at Lions: 5
Favourite Outback experience: Playing against team USA was definitely a highlight. Despite lacking the technical experience of the opposition and being somewhat outmatched physically as well, it was an exhilarating experience to be able to go toe-to-toe every snap with such high calibre players and hold my own. It was a great indicator of how far I have come as a football player, but also a reminder that there is still plenty of work left to do.

Carbs is a physical presence, and was able to stand toe to toe with the best at the world cup.
Favourite non football memory of the trip: Travelling around Innsbruck and Vienna with team mates and being able to get to know and spend time with guys from other clubs who I would not normally get to associate with on a regular basis.
Favourite Lions experience: Winning the 2010 Championship game MVP alongside the other members of the Lions offensive line. Although somewhat unorthodox, it was a great recognition of the hard work put in by not only the members of the offensive line, but also the coaches and other units on the team who worked tirelessly to help us improve our standard of play.

Ferocious when he pulls, Carbs always brings the viking fury when making contact
How the Lions helped you get where you are: The coaches and veteran players at the Lions foster an environment where work ethic and willingness to learn are valued over success. The concept of “Lions football”, playing as part of a unit, continually striving to improve and leaving everything on the field, inspired me to work harder to get better as a football player, and is something that has held me in good stead in all levels of football I have been involved in. I can honestly say that without the knowledge and dedication of the coaches at the club I would not be in a position to represent my state and country, and am very thankful to be associated with such committed people.
