Lions Book Ticket to Waratah Bowl
Posted on December 9, 2012
With the season coming to a close, it’s a win or go home scenario every time the Lions step on the field. The game on Saturday night was no different, with the resurgent Wollongong Mustangs stepping onto the field to take on the Lions. In what could best be described as a one sided game, the Lions were victorious 62-34, although the scoreline flattered the Mustangs, who were down 49-6 at half time.
In what could best be described as perfect football conditions, the Mustangs took the opening kickoff and their high powered offence was quickly subdued. From there, the Lions scored two plays later, with Alex Watson running the length of the field to score. This would be the theme for the first half: Lions D would halt a Mustang’s drive, and a handful of plays later the Lions O would punch it in.
There were many highlights of the game for all aspects of the team:
– Keenan Mackett taking an interception all the way back to the house for 6
– Ben Quigley taking a superb one handed catch for a touchdown, all while being mugged by a defender
– Fady Aoun expertly reading a screen pass, then tipping the ball for another Lions interception.
– Alex Watson, Liam Erby and Kiernan Dorney all scoring length of the field touchdowns
– Sam Darcy, Harry Granger and Stu Olive ruling the skies
– Liam Erby and Joe Lim punishing inside ball carriers.
Not much can be said from here: it’s all or nothing against UTS this week. We have worked long and hard, with the support of many people to get to where we are, and now we just need to get the job done.
