ALLTIME LION NUMBER
Posted on September 15, 2024
The Sydney University American Football Club unveiled the Alltime Lion Number for every player to have ever pulled on the Gold jersey at its Annual Dinner held last night to launch the 40th anniversary year since the Club was formed in 1984.
The Club played its first game (as the Stormtroopers!) on 29 April 1984 at Kentucky Reserve, Riverwood, with 20 players taking to the field for the University in that first game (a win over the Raiders!). Since then, 747 players have turned out for the Club winning 85% of their games and capturing 22 NSW championships in 39 seasons of competition to date (with 1 season lost to COVID).
The Alltime Lion Number list has been complied from records across the history of the club including rosters, sign-on sheets, game reports and statistics. Every effort has been taken to make the Alltime Lion Number list a comprehensive record. For the inaugural season, players have been sorted by their first game played and then by jersey number. The three founders of the club, David Little (Lion #8F), Keith Phillips (Lion #11F) and Philip Moses (Lion #15F) have had the letter “F” added to their Alltime Lion Number to denote them as Club founders. For the remaining seasons, players have been sorted by their first season and then by jersey number. Moving forward, players will be designated their Alltime Lion Number as they suit up for their first game, with their Alltime Lion Number being confirmed at the next training.
Your individual Alltime Lion Number will be featured on special Club merchandise. This year Alumni members will receive a Club cap with their individual Alltime Lion Number embroidered into the cap (among other benefits). Make sure to support the Club in its 40th anniversary season by becoming an Alumni member.
